Abstract

Our purpose was to investigate and to develop liquid media and surfactants to disperse SiC whiskers in matrix material. Silicon carbide whiskers were dispersed in mixtures of ethanol and ethanediol of various compositions. The sedimentation height ratio and viscosity indicated dispersion. The effect of polyethyleneimine surfactant on the dispersion was also studied. SiC whiskers were well dispersed in a mixture containing ethanol (25%), ethanediol (75%), and polyethyleneimine (1%) by volume.
