Abstract
The purpose the Green Signal Countdown Devices (GSCD) is to provide the advance information of the green light termination and to help drivers make their stop/go decision easier and predictive. In order to explore the driver's interactions with GSCD information and the efficacy of the GSCD, an intersection in Kaohsiung city, Taiwan was chosen as the experimental site to test and analyze several GSCD information scenarios. A high accuracy data logger system was developed and calibrated to fulfill the need of recording the passing vehicles characteristics and signal phase data simultaneously. The experimental results among scenarios were compared and a compromise strategy of GSCD between traffic safety and driver's satisfaction was discussed.
