Effect of Nd2BaO4 addition on the melt-textured Nd-Ba-Cu-O superconductor

Abstract

Nd-Ba-Cu-O samples with superior Tc and Jc can be produced with the process in low oxygen partial pressure, the so-called oxygen-controlled melt-growth (OCMG) method. A previous report indicated that Tc as high as 88 K can be achieved by processing in air with the addition of Nd2BaO4 (Nd210). However, the Jc(H, T) data and the effect of amount added on their superconducting properties were not studied in detail. This report reveals a systematic study of the effect of Nd2BaO4 additions as well as the processing oxygen partial pressure on the microstructure evolution and the superconducting properties.
