Effect of PbO-based glass frit additives on physical and electrical properties of 0.125PMN-0.875PZT piezoelectric ceramics near the morphotropic phase boundary

Abstract

In this work, the piezoelectric ceramic powders of 0.875Pb(Ti yZr1-y)O3-0.125Pb(Mg1/3Nb 2/3)O3 system, with 0.45 ≤ y ≤ 0.55, with composition close to the morphotropic phase boundary, were studied. The influence of sintering condition on the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of the 0.875Pb(Ti,Zr)O3-0.12SPb(Mg1/3Nb 2/3)O3(0.875PZT-0.125PMN) ceramics with PbO-based glass frit was also investigated. If small amounts of 4PbO.B2O3 glass powder are added to the calcined 0.875PZT-0.125PMN powders, the liquid phase is formed during sintering. Hence, the sintering temperature can be reduced and the piezoelectric and dielectric properties are enhanced. To gain insight into the behavior of ferroelectric ceramics, the biasing field dependence of the dielectric constant was investigated. The effect of domain switching process on the dielectric constant is the contributions by 180°-reversal and those by 90°-rotation.
