This paper presents some results from a parametric simulation using a heat transfer model developed to predict the skid mark formation, the localized temperature depression, on a steel slab in a three-zone reheating furnace of China Steel Corporation. The model can predict the temperature distributions in the slab and the skids throughout the heating process, and so the skid mark on the slab can be quantitatively evaluated. The objective of the present work is to examine the influences of the furnace-wall reflection on the skid mark formation on the slab. Results of the parametric simulation show that the furnace-wall reflection does not lead to significant variation in the severity of the skid mark formation.
