Abstract
Duplex stainless steels were prepared with volume fractions of ferrite phases from 21 to 80%. Cyclic potentiodynamic polarization and a.c. impedance spectroscopy were used to study the electrochemical characteristics in Hank's solution. U-bend stress corrosion, crevice corrosion and pitting corrosion tests were also conducted to evaluate resistance to localized corrosion. The data are compared with those of type 316L stainless steel which is widely adopted as an orthopaedic implant alloy.
