Abstract

The electrodeposition of Pd-Au and Pd-Ag alloys was investigated in a Lewis basic water-stable 1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride/tetrafluoroborate ionic liquid containing Pd(II) and Au(I) or Ag(I). Compact deposits could be prepared with galvanostatic and potentiostatic electrolysis, respectively. Both electrodeposited alloy systems formed solid solutions. The composition of the alloy deposits could be varied by the plating bath composition, deposition current, deposition potential, and deposition temperature.
