Empirical formula on floor response spectrum

Abstract

The design response spectrum plays an important role in the analysis and design of buildings, so does the floor response spectrum in the design of subsystems. An empirical formula in predicting the floor response spectrum is proposed here. Such a formula depends on the ground response spectrum, the fundamental vibration period and damping ratio of the building, the height of the floor, and the dynamic characteristics of the subsystem. The parameters in the formula are estimated by a nonlinear regression analysis to the floor response spectra calculated from the real records in 19 RC buildings around Taiwan.
