Abstract

Drill resistance test with drilling method according to three different angular orientations, including 30, 45 and 90 degrees, was applied to evaluate mechanical properties of small clear specimen of wooden components in this study. The results showed that the drill resistance can predict new timber material's density, modulus of elastic in compression perpendicular to grain, and transverse compressive strength. It is able to acquire the direct relationship between resistance value and mechanical properties of timber with an easy and convenient drilling method. This is the basis to evaluate the wooden structural frame in the conservation work of traditional historic buildings in advance.
