Abstract

A simple procedure is proposed for the evaluation of earthquake-induced settlement in dry sand layers (Nevada sand No. 120) with relative density Dr ≈ 60%. The proposed method considered the effects of cyclic shear stress caused by earthquake shaking and was validated by centrifugal model test. The results indicate that the proposed method can be put to practice for the evaluation of earthquake-induced settlement in dry sand layers.
