Evolutionary strategy to apply information and communication technology: A case study in the apparel industry

Abstract

The apparel industry is a demand-driven and highly globalised industry. Apparel manufacturers must adjust their strategies and redeploy supply chain positions in order to meet the customer demand. This research adopts the value chain theory and value proposition theory to analyse the development stage of e-business of the apparel case company. The case company applies the suitable information and communication technology applications at each development stage to meet the company's long-term strategies and increase its competitive advantages. This study summarises the critical successful factors of e-business implementation of the case company. From the successful experience of the case company, several guidelines of implementing the e-business can be extracted as a reference for other enterprises. Finally, this research also mentions several contrary examples of certain guidelines and discusses ways to modify these guidelines in order to apply the e-business to other enterprises.
