The natural frequencies and the corresponding mode shapes of partially clamped trapezoid cantilever plates were determined numerically and experimentally by finite element computer program, SAP6, and holographic interferometry, respectively. Two kinds of clamping conditions were studied: 1) left portion of the base is clamped, 2) middle portion of the base is clamped. Good agreements were found between the numerical and experimental results. The natural frequencies obtained were expressed in terms of a dimensionless frequency parameter, λ, and plotted as a function of the free length ratio for each case. The effect of the free length ratio and clamping condition on the vibratory behavior of the trapezoidal plates is investigated.
