Abstract

Laboratory experiments were conducted in a 26-m by 36-m basin with a 1:30 plan beach to study the interaction of monochromatic waves and an ebb current in and near shallow entrance channel. Two entrance channel configurations were tested: one with a slide slope and the other with vertical sides. Data were collected for three current-only, four wave-only, and twelve wave-current cases for each entrance channel configuration. Good agreement was obtained between these laboratory data and numerical model predictions. The effect of the ebb current on waves is to increase the wave height as much as 60 percent and to increase higher harmonics in the spectra.
