This paper describes experimental studies on the relative wave elevations between two floating platforms in the beam waves. The two-dimensional models which are selected from the midship sections of Ohkusu's models are made and tank tests are carefully carried out. Restrained and unrestrained cases are conducted with three different clearances and two wave headings, i. e. mu equals 90 degree and 270 degree , are investigated. The measured relative wave elevations on the hull sides of the models are compared with theoretical results and good agreements are obtained generally. The results shown here strongly verify the validity of the strip theory studied before, and are expected to be valuable for the design criteria of the water shipping between two floating platforms.
