Abstract

This paper attempts to use a new conceptual scheme to present an expert system for the structural identification and generalization of mechanical devices. This expert system consists of a knowledge base with frames, rules and procedures, a forward-chaining inference engine, a working memory, and a user interface. The results of this work will be beneficial to the automation of the creative design of mechanical devices.
