Abstract

The optimal Hankel-norm approximation problem studied in [1] is reformulated in a state-space setting. It is shown that the A-A-K Hankel approximation theory can be generalized to optimal multivariable case. The optimal Hankel approximants obtained in this way are identical to those obtained by Glover [2], however, the present approach provides a deep insight into the A-A-K approximation theory and throws a new light on its future applications.
