Fast vector quantization encoder for video coding

Abstract

A fast Vector Quantization (VQ) encoder for video signals is developed. The video signal is encoded by VQ in a frame by frame manner. This VQ encoder can quickly search codebook for a minimum distortion codeword by exploiting the spatial and temporal redundancy as well as using dimension reduction technique. Finally a simplified labels replenishment technique is employed for the benefit to bit rate.
