Abstract

A simple electrochemical strategy is described to prepare high surface area nanostructured platinum electrode by alloying and de-alloying of PtZn in a Lewis acidic ZnCl2-1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ionic liquid. The resulting Pt electrode showed significantly enhanced current for hydrogen and methanol redox reactions, due to the increased surface area.
