Abstract

In this study, forty normal subjects were evaluated. Three different functional activities were studied. These were tip, pulp and lateral pinch; grasp; and radial and ulnar deviation strength of each finger. The functional strength of normal subjects obtained in this study provides the references and criteria for the evaluation of disabled and diseased hands. The results also provide more understanding of the muscle activities during hand functions. The evaluation devices can be utilized for the pre- and post-surgical evaluation to determine the degree of improvement of the surgical procedures in the individual patients. In the present study, all of the devices used are designed with the strain gage device which provides several advantages with increased accuracy, easy calibration, and a wide range of measurements.
