Abstract

Data broadcast technology has become a popular method for data dissemination in wireless information systems. However, past literature focuses only on the issues of the retrieval methods, rather than the clients' request property such as expected-time service. Expected-time service means that retrieving a broadcast page needs to be done within a deadline. Otherwise, the usefulness of the retrieved data deminishes or even becomes useless. We address this issue in this paper and propose the scheduling algorithms for both sufficient and insufficient broadcast channels. We also evaluate our generated broadcast programs under different performance metrics. Our performance results show that the proposed algorithms indeed achieve almost the optimal performance.
