Abstract
A hydrothermal route has been adopted to prepare metastable wurtzite-type (γ) manganese sulfide (MnS) crystallites via the reaction of manganese acetate (Mn(CH3COO)2) and thioacetamide in water at 60-130 °C. Experiments show that the control of reaction temperature and time is important to the target phase. It is suggested that kinetics plays a predominant role in the formation of γ-MnS under the hydrothermal conditions.
