Hydrothermal synthesis of ZnFe2O4 ultrafine particles with high magnetization

Well crystallized ZnFe2O4 ultrafine particles with octahedral shape and a size of 300 nm were prepared by a hydrothermal reaction using metal Zn sheet and FeCl2 as reactants in ammonia solutions at 180 °C. As-prepared ferrite particles display high magnetization with maximum saturation magnetization (σmax) 61.2 emg g-1 at 80 K and 54.6 emg g-1 at 300 K, respectively. The results demonstrated that hydrothermal process is an effective pathway for producing high quality ferrite ultrafine particles.
