Abstract

Detailed impact force patterns on the hand during backward fall arrest were measured to isolate the possible injury mechanisms of Colles fractures. Tracings of the center of pressure (COP) movement during hand impact were estimated from the force platform data. The planar COP deviations from touchdown to steady state were then quantified. Statistical comparisons were made between the gender and fall type.
