Implementation of rider assistance system with head-up display and safety notification

Abstract

This work presents an innovative assistance system in front of motorcycle helmets for motorcyclists. The proposed system demonstrates the information including the velocity, the navigating message from smartphones to Head-up Display (HUD) modules, and an optical mechanism with an OLED panel. Moreover, the inertial sensor monitors the posture of riders. When the long-term head-down behavior is detected, the system will notify the riders with the buzzer. Also, the traffic collision can be recognized by monitored acceleration to provide emergency notification. Therefore, the riders can focus the attention on the roads ahead and their safety is also enhanced.
