Abstract

Computer-aided simulation is suited for designing a new Claus unit and can be used to search for better operating conditions (for an existing Claus plant). In this work a methodology has been developed to integrate kinetic limitations into the equilibrium calculations for each of the Claus converters (including the reaction furnace) as well as other process units. This modification has improved the prediction of sulfur recovery, optimum air to acid gas ratio, and various stream compositions significantly.
