He received the B.S. degree in Information Science from Tunghi University in 1990 and the M.S. degree in Applied Mathematics from National Chung-Hsing University in 1992 and the Ph.D. degree in Information Engineering from National Cheng-Kung University in 1996. He is currently a Professor in the Information Management Department, Southern Taiwan University of Technology, Tainan County, Taiwan. His research interests include information security, cryptography, and smart card systems. He is a member of the IEICE. Yu-Chung Chiu received his bachelor of engineering degree in computer science information engineering from Chung Hua University in 2001. He is now a master's student in Manage information System at Southern Taiwan Univesity of Technology. His research interests include cryptography and information security.

N2 - In 2003, Wu and Chieu proposed a user-friendly remote authentication scheme with smart card. In the scheme, a user can freely choose and change his/her password. In this article, we will show a forgery attack on the Wu-Chieu scheme and propose an improvement to resist the security flaw.
