Integrated Design and Analysis of Reaction Wheel Motor Applied to Satellite Attitude Control

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contribution

Abstract

This paper develops a coreless stator, dual-rotor permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) suitable for reaction wheels. The reaction wheel motor requires a design with high efficiency and high inertia. Therefore, the coreless stator motor can satisfy this requirement with the advantages of the suppression of core loss and reduction of weight to achieve high efficiency. In addition, due to the limited space, an integrated design embracing the driver into the reaction wheel motor is adopted to further prevent interference of magnet flux. Finally, a light-weight and high-efficiency reaction wheel motor is obtained by complete electromagnetic simulation verification. Experiments are conducted to validate the design.
