Abstract

An improved dual parity placement scheme to enhance the reliability of a RAID system is proposed. It is simple and can be processed in parallel. Its implementation can be purely by software without any modification on hardware. From error-correcting coding point, an intuitional decoding method able to correct up to two erasures without the syndrome generation or operation is proposed.
