Kinematic errors of variable pitch lead screw transmission mechanisms with cylindrical meshing elements

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the kinematic error induced by assembly for a variable pitch lead screw transmission mechanism based on coordinate transformation, differential geometry and the theory of conjugate surfaces. A mathematical model of this mechanism is given. The conditions of meshing are derived and the kinematic errors due to assembly are determined. We found that the assembly parameter α affects the kinematic error significantly. The result of this work is essential for engineers in determining the tolerance of assembly parameters for this mechanism.
