Abstract

A method has been developed for cam profile determination using conjugate surface theory and NC data generation for machine tools to machine cams with flat-face followers. The desired cutter location and the machine tool's form-shaping function are derived using a modified Denavit-Hartenberg notation. NC data equations are obtained by solving the machine tool's link variables through equation of its form-shaping function and the desired cutter location matrices. This methodology combines the activities of design and cam manufacturing, thus making the production process more flexible and automatic.
