Abstract

The mass-transport gradient inside the free-surface boundary layer of three-dimensional oscillatory flows is examined. The Lagrangian description is utilized in the present paper. In terms of the first-order inviscid velocity field, general formulae of the wave-induced Lagrangian vorticity at the outer edge of the boundary layer are obtained. It is found that the wave-induced vorticity vanishes for three-dimensional non-propagating waves.
