Abstract

We have measured the micro-Raman scattering on the mercury-based cuprate superconductors HgBa2CuO4+δ (Hg-1201), HgBa2CaCu2O6+δ (Hg-1212) and HgBa2Ca2Cu3O8+δ (Hg-1223) in ceramic forms. The observed Raman spectra showed similar features for all the samples. A strong peak at ∼585 cm-1 was tentatively attributed to the apical oxygen vibrating along the c-direction. A shoulder peak at ∼570 cm-1 was speculated to be due to the vibration of the interstitial oxygen. Weak features around 180 cm-1 were observed for all the samples. The Raman spectrum from CaHgO2 was also reported. The power dependence of the Raman peaks was studied on Hg-1212. Raman scattering on a Hg-1212 thin film was also measured.
