Abstract
Microwave quenching of the ceramic superconductor YBa2Cu3O7-x from the superconducting to normal state (resistivity approximately 10-3 ω cm) is studied. An opening switch based on this technique has been demonstrated. The operation of this very promising class of opening switch is discussed in conjunction with a model describing the quenching process.
