Abstract

Contrast enhancement algorithms have been designed to conform the contrast to human visual perception. Histogram Equalization (HE) is widely used for contrast enhancement, but the problem is over-enhancement, washed out, and detail loss for some parts of the processed image when the discontinuous histogram. Modified histogram equalization based on the partitioned dynamic range was proposed in this paper which to solve the problems of HE. We propose a method which combines the Probability Density Function (PDF) and the Range Distribution Function (RDF). PDF aimed at keeping the characteristic of the original image and the RDF aimed for reducing the devastating effect of the equalization.
