Abstract

Weighted Pixel Value Averaging (WPVA) and Boundary Matching Based Motion Vector Recovery (BMBMVR) are adopted by H.264/AVC to conceal erroneous MacroBlocks (MBs) in intra pictures and inter pictures, respectively. However, WPVA would blur edges causing bad visional effects. To deal with this problem, in this paper Edge Reserving Concealment (ERC) is proposed to detect whether MBs are on Single Edge and uses Directional Interpolation for concealment so as to maintain edges. Furthermore, the Minima Mean Square Error Double-vector Motion Compensation (MMSE DMC) algorithm is also modified for adapting into H.264 to provide intra frame concealment, for both moving regions and static regions.
