Abstract
This note presents preliminary results of investigations of a new laser action based on neodymium doped lanthanum tungstate (Nd3+: La2(WO4)3. Absorption and fluorescence measurements were carried out using single crystal samples. The intensity and bandwidth of the absorption band around 0.58 μm are stronger than those of other absorption bands, therefore xenon lamps as a pumping source are suitable for this laser crystal. Large single crystals with optical quality can be readily obtained, the pumping wavelength range and its fluorescence lifetime are appropriate, its laser threshold is very low, and the physico-chemical properties are good.
