Nonconservative stability of a bimodulus beam subjected to a follower force

Abstract

The nonconservative stability problems of a bimodulus beam subjected to a follower force are studied. Because the positions of the neutral axis of a bimodulus beam are functions of position, the finite element method is employed to solve the dynamic stability problems. The Timoshenko beam element is adopted to obtain the nutter load and buckling load. The positions of the neutral axis are calculated. The bimodulus property is found to have a significant effect on the nutter load.
