Abstract
This paper presents the comparative dynamic-stability analyzed results of an offshore wind farm (OWF) based on doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) fed to a multi-machine power system through a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) link based on line-commutated converter (LCC) and a high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) line. A frequency-domain approach based on a linearized system model using eigenvalue scheme and a time-domain method based on a nonlinear system model subject to a severe disturbance are both employed to compare the damping characteristics contributed by the LCC-HVDC link and the HVAC line. It can be concluded from the comparative simulation results that the proposed LCC-HVDC link can render better damping characteristics to stabilize the studied DFIG-based OWF fed to a multi-machine power system under disturbance conditions.
