Nozzles in the knuckle region of a torispherical head: Limit load interaction under combined pressure and piping loads

Abstract

Limit loads are assessed for a piping nozzle in a Klöpperböden torispherical drumhead. The particular concern is when the the nozzle is located in the knuckle region of the head. Individual limit loads for internal pressure and the four nozzle loads are presented. Limit load interaction plots for pressure versus nozzle axial force, in-plane moment, out-of-plane moment and torsion, and for in-plane moment versus out-of-plane moment are also presented. The results are discussed in the light of design code rules for load interaction.
