N2 - This paper presents 3-D FDTD computation of a head model irradiated by a square loop wire antenna at 900/1800 MHz. The human head is modeled to be a multi-layered superquadric ellipsoid, which is flexible to model a sphere, ellipsoid, square cube, or rectangular cube. In this way, it is easy to define the head-shape and tissue properties. The ellipsoidal head model (with the ears) comprises 9 different tissues of skin, cartilage, fat, muscle, bone, blood, nerve, brain, and eye-lens. A square loop antenna of perimeter 15cm (0.A5 λ/0.9λ at 900/1800MHz) with x-, y-, or z-orientation is proximate to the head at 1.0cm distance. The computed radiation characteristics of the square loop antenna influenced by the head and SAR distribution are important for antenna design and health safety studies.
