This paper presents a reaching law for a quasi-sliding mode in discrete-time uncertain systems. Based on the reaching law proposed herein, an explicit formula is given to determine the first time at which the system trajectory crosses the switching surface s(k) and the quasi-sliding mode motion begins. An upper bound is also derived for the uncertainties to ensure existence of the quasi-sliding mode. According to our results, under a certain condition, the proposed scheme has the properties including a less conservative steady-state value of s(k) and a small magnitude of the control input required for the control system.
