N2 - To support massive connections of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, backscatter communication has been proposed as a promising technique. However, its transmission reliability cannot be guaranteed due to the lack of error protection. To solve this problem, the optimization design of backscatter communications with retransmissions is studied in this letter. First, its analytical error performance is derived based on finite blocklength data rate theory. Second, the resource allocation and the retransmission strategy are jointly optimized to improve transmission reliability with low costs. Finally, the simulation results are provided to verify the performance gains of our proposed scheme.
