Abstract
Final approach detour has related to airspace operation, air traffic control procedures, approach queuing and separation, take-of and landing holdings. Under modern Communication, Navigation, Surveillance and Air Traffic Management (CMS-ATM) infra structure, the Local Area Augmentation System (LAAS) can offer better navigation accuracy to enhance final approach performance. Therefore, higher Required Navigation Performance (RNP) for accurate area navigation (RNAV) can be expected for precision approach. The navigation performance can be promoted into RNP-1-0.3 specification. The study of optimal approach trajectory is suited for higher RNP that aircraft may maintain appropriate separation minimum. This study focuses on an optimal detour trajectory from the initial approach fix (IAF) to the final approach fix (FAF) to extend separation. This paper applies the optimal theory to find feasible detour solutions in contribution to future airspace management.
