Optimal output feedback control of slewing structures with spillover stabilization

Abstract

An optimal output feedback algorithm with spillover stabilization property is developed for the vibration control of flexible structures. The controller is derived from a quadratic performance index with weighting matrices of control and observation spillover from residual modes. Stability robustness of a closed loop system with velocity feedback can then be guaranteed by preventing the observation spillover; furthermore, the performance degradation from control spillover can be minimized. It is shown that, under the presence of residual modes, the controller is superior to LQG control both in stability and performance.
