Out-of-plane vibration of Timoshenko straight-curved-straight hollow beam

This work presents the governing equations for the out-of-plane motion of Timoshenko straight-curved-straight beam of hollow type. An analytical method is also presented to examine the free vibration of the straight-curved-straight beam. The orthogonality of any two distinct sets of mode shape functions of the entire structure is derived. A travelling force on the beam is taken as an example to study the forced vibration of the structure. The effects of length, span number and radius of curvature of the curved beam on the characteristic responses of the entire structure are investigated.
