Abstract
Installation effects concerning two cases of single elbow and double elbows out-of-plane situated upstream of a vortex flowmeter were studied. The performance of the vortex flowmeter was examined in terms of the shift in Strouhal number, the linearity of Strouhal number and the signal quality defined. Interestingly noted is that in each of the cases studied the quality of the meter signals obtained at 15 to 25 pipe diameters downstream of the elbow(s) can be even better than that obtained in the fully-developed region. This enlightens that one can take advantage of this characteristic in determining the meter location.
