Abstract

This study endeavors to investigate the possibility of using the variation in the permeability as an index to describe the change of the internal structures of soft rocks during triaxial tests. Extensive triaxial tests are carried out on soft rocks to test this idea. In addition to the measurement of stress & strain, the vertical permeability is also recorded. These tests include: (1) low and high confining pressure triaxial tests (2) triaxial test with relaxations (3) multiple-stage triaxial tests (4) cyclic loading tests.
