Abstract
The physical mechanism of plasma currents induced by waves is discussed using plasma momentum and heat flux balance equations. Through the coupling of momentum and heat friction forces, both momentum and heat flux sources associated with waves can drive currents along the magnetic field. It is shown that the parallel current induced by the electron cyclotron waves is due to the absorption of the heat flux from the waves.
