Abstract

Physical cross-linking for PolyVinyl Alcohol (PVA) is to cross-link the inter-molecular and intra-molecular hydrogens of PVA by means of freezing and thawing process. This study aims to explore the factors that influence the physical cross-linking for PVA. With the same freezing and thawing time, but different freeze-thaw cycles, two PVAs that have the same molecular weight but different hydrolyzed levels are made into PVA cryogels that with different cross-linking levels. The properties of the cryogels are analyzed and observed by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscope (FTIR), X-ray diffraction, and degradation assay.
