Research output: Patent

Abstract

Quenching a work piece made of a titanium alloy having a temperature higher than 800.degree. C. to a temperature lower than 500.degree. C. at a cooling rate greater than 10.degree. C./second between 800.degree. C. and 500.degree. C. is used to render the cooled work piece containing .alpha." phase as a major phase. The titanium alloy composition contains at least one isomorphous beta stabilizing element selected from Mo, Nb, Ta and W; and the balance Ti, wherein said composition has a Mo equivalent value from about 6 to about 9. The work piece is preferably a medical device.
